COURSE CONTENTS

This certificated course is taught by Peter Walker, described as "Britain's leading baby massage expert". It includes theoretical and practical work, dvd and slide presentations as well as evidence based research and observation of a postnatal class with mothers and babies. This two day course includes:

• Empowering mother and child relationships
• Mothers Fathers and Babies
• What babies have to teach us
• Some differences and benefits of 'Developmental Baby Massage'
• Developmental Baby Massage as an aid to assessment
• Introducing Baby Massage from birth/A Holding Reassurance Programme for young babies and fractious children
• Developmental Baby Massage from ten weeks to sitting/rolling including developmental delay
• Toddlers and young children - massage and massage to movement
• Introducing 'Soft Gymnastics for Children' from standing up to five years of age
• Assessment of the developing infant
• Assisting motor development from birth to walking
• Maintaining and improving joint flexibility and muscular coordination
• Postural education and its importance to health
• The correct use of massage oils and some essential oils
• Contra-indications or 'when not to massage'
• Massage for babies with some common ailments like, colic, constipation, sleeplessness and anxiety, hypotonia, stiff joints and early developmental delay
• Setting up Baby Massage Classes
• Group dynamics and teaching skills
