Peter Walker, physical therapist and yoga teacher since the late 1970s. Studied Yoga and experiential anatomy with dear friend and teacher Arthur Balaskas. Worked for many years under the supervision of world famous psychiatrist and author Dr R D Laing and introduced yoga and massage into a number of Dr Laing's therapeutic communities. From the mid eighties onwards he has taught massage and movement to mothers and babies and some unique techniques to parents with babies with special needs.

As an associate of The Active Birth Centre since its earliest beginnings, Peter enjoys the full support and a close working relationship with the founder member, Janet Balaskas, a celebrated author and a specialist in childbirth education.

Peter enjoys the support of the renown obstetrician, Yehudi Gordon, the founder of The Birth Unit at St. John and Elizabeth's Hospital and Viveka, in West London. Peter also enjoys the support of other leading professionals including osteopaths, homeopaths and paediatricians based around ‘Viveka’ and the ‘Active Birth Centre’.
Peter specialises in supporting parent and child relationships and the well-being and fitness of mothers and babies and those babies with special needs.

A pioneer of ‘Developmental Baby Massage’ and ‘YogaGym’ for babies and children from the eighties, Peter currently has upwards of some six and half thousand teachers in over twenty different countries, all taught and certificated personally by him.

His certificated Teacher Training Course in ‘Developmental Baby Massage and Movement’ from birth to five, is given throughout the UK and Japan and more recently on the Gold Coast of Australia. This course attracts midwives, health visitors, neonatal nurses and other therapists and professionals involved with mothers and babies and early childcare from all around the world.

Peter’s course is the only one (with extra study) that attracted a university merit of fifteen points towards a level three honours degree in midwifery and neonatal nursing.

Peter has made numerous radio and television appearances, has featured in documentaries and breakfast shows on all the UK’s major channels and interviewed by Frank Bough, Anne Diamond, Richard and Judy, Emma Freud, Tara Newley, Melinda Messenger and a whole host of others.

He has also given talks on BBC Radio One, Woman’s Radio, Radio Wales and other radio stations and has been featured in articles in Woman, Cosmopolitan, Harpers & Queen, The Telegraph, Daily Mail, The Guardian, The Observer, The Times, Japan Times and Australia’s Natural Parenting Magazines and many other national publications including most UK mother and baby publications.

Because of the growing epidemic of inner city violence that features worldwide in all of todays modern societies many of those involved with mental health and physical wellbeing, the environment, criminal rehabilitation, politics and care in general within their communities are searching for more understanding and for ways in which this problem can be resolved.

However the importance of the fact that every human being carries with them and is influenced by their developmental history still seems to be largely overlooked.

When this developmental profile begins and to what extent this influences our lives has always been and still remains and issue for debate.

The fact that some of our deepest fears and anxieties come from our pre-natal, birth, post-natal and early childhood experiences is still a long way from being given the credence that it deserves.
